Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes, it is tax-deductible. Sail Onward HK is a programme of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club Charity Foundation, a charitable institution recognised as tax-exempt under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance (IR file no. 91/11696). In Hong Kong, donations of HK$100 or more are tax-deductible, up to 35% of your assessable income or profits. An official receipt will be issued by the RHKYC Charity Foundation upon request for each qualifying donation.

  • Every dollar donated to Sail Onward HK goes directly back into the programme. We are committed to making sailing accessible to local Hong Kong schoolchildren, regardless of background, and your support makes this possible. Donations fund weekly training sessions at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, instructor and coach fees, fuel for safety ribs, wetsuits and equipment, and competition and regatta costs. Nothing is wasted. Every contribution helps put a child on the water.

  • We love having passionate people involved in what we do. We welcome volunteers for our events and regattas throughout the year. If you would like to be notified about upcoming opportunities to get involved, please reach out to us at info@sailonward.org, and we will be in touch when the next opportunity arises.

  • We gratefully accept in-kind donations that directly support the programme, including sailing equipment, wetsuits, safety gear, and other marine supplies. If you have something you think could benefit our young sailors, please get in touch. We will let you know whether it meets our current needs.

Please note: under Hong Kong law, only monetary donations qualify for a Section 88 tax receipt. In-kind gifts are appreciated but cannot be officially recognised by the IRD for tax purposes. We’ll acknowledge in-kind support in writing.

  • Absolutely. If you would like to make a donation in honour or in memory of someone special, please include their name when completing your donation, and we will ensure it is noted on your official receipt.

If you would like us to acknowledge the dedication in another way (for example, with a card, email, or special note), please reach out, and we will do our best to accommodate your wishes.
